Three novel species of fungi associated with pine species showing needle blight-like disease symptoms

چکیده

Pine needle diseases, such as red band and brown spot blight, are serious pine diseases that threatens forests in many countries. Several outbreaks have been reported resulting loss of productivity mortality both exotic native plantations Pinus spp. Symptomatology these two is quite similar characterized by the appearance yellowish areas/bands on hosts’ leaves subsequently lead to more extensive lesions and/or necrotic areas. In an attempt understand main causes blight-like disease symptoms a study was carried stands were apparently affected blights. Needles showing spots bands with fruiting bodies sampled. From 25 trees samples, 82 fungal isolates successfully retrieved. The most common genera Pestalotiopsis (42.68%, n = 35), Rhizosphaera (28.04%, 23) Cladosporium (9.75%, 8). Seven could not be assigned species through molecular identification ITS sequence analysis, potentially representing novel taxa. Based multilocus phylogenetic analyses, using ITS, tub2 tef1-α sequences, morphological data, we propose three species: Didymocyrtis pini sp. nov., iberica nov. pinicola These potential active players symptomatology initially associated blight diseases. Although pathogenicity fungi needs confirmed, this suggests high complexity underlying which may impact epidemiology management.

Novel species of Botryosphaeriaceae associated with shoot blight of pistachio.

Various species of phytopathogenic Botryosphaeriaceae were identified previously from pistachio trees worldwide. Disease symptoms caused by pathogens in Botryosphaeriaceae on pistachio include panicle and shoot blight, leaf defoliation, fruit discoloration and decay. In this study species of Botryosphaeriaceae were collected from blighted pistachio shoots in Arizona, USA, and Greece. The aims o...

Identification of Fusarium species associated with Fusarium head blight of wheat in the North of Iran and phylogenetic analysis of the dominant species

In order to determine the causal agents of Fusarium head blight, during 2015–16, wheat heads with disease symptom were collected from 10 and six main wheat production areas of Golestan and Mazandaran provinces (N Iran), respectively. A total of 431 Fusarium isolates were obtained belonging to nine Fusarium species based on their morphological characteristics. Fusarium graminearum species comple...

Novel species of Calonectria associated with Eucalyptus leaf blight in Southeast China

Leaf blight caused by Calonectria spp. is an important disease occurring on Eucalyptus trees grown in plantations of Southeast Asia. Symptoms of leaf blight caused by Calonectria spp. have recently been observed in commercial Eucalyptus plantations in FuJian Province in Southeast China. The aim of this study was to identify these Calonectria spp. employing morphological characteristics, DNA seq...

Phylogeny and genetic diversity of Fusarium graminearum species complex associated with Fusarium head blight of wheat in Moghan plain (Iran)

Thirty-seven isolates of Fusarium graminearum species complexobtained from wheat heads with Fusarium head blight symptoms were selected and used for phylogenetic studies. They were collected from different localities of Moghan plain (Ardebil province, Iran). Partial sequences of translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF), putative reductase (RED) and UTP-ammonia ligase (URA) genes were amplifi...
